Abstract

This study examined various factors thought to have an impact on the crude death rate in Turkiye. Data from 81 provinces in Turkiye were used. The independent variables of the study were the categorical variables representing the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 outbreak and the regions in which the provinces are located, as well as the number of physicians per 1,000 people, the number of hospital beds per 100,000 people, the crude birth rate, the per capita income, the literacy rate, the amount of municipal waste per capita, and the electricity consumption per capita in kilowatt-hours. Data were obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute database and cover the years 2016, 2018, and 2020. Pooled least squares and robust regression analyses were used in the study. The analyses revealed that the number of physicians per 1,000 people, the crude birth rate, the per capita income, and the per capita electricity consumption had a significant negative effect on the crude death rate (p 0.05). In the Central Anatolia, Aegean, and Marmara regions, the crude death rate was found to be statistically significantly higher compared to the Southeastern Anatolia Region (p<0.05).
