Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the suitability of candidate regions for telescopic observation and touristic activities in terms of light pollution using parameters such as international sky brightness measurements, distance, altitude and advantages of southerly areas. Light pollution distribution was mapped with interactive digital layer support via scaled, coordinated, projection defined and relational database supported spatial modeling platform of SQM measurements taken for 20 nights. Settlements within 30 km radius were evaluated with multi-criteria decision support in terms of any parameters and Nasrettin Hodja was determined as the most suitable settlement. Measurement points were selected considering distance from artificial light sources, topographic structure and touristic potential, and statistical analysis of light pollution distribution was performed with spatial autocorrelation tests and clustering analyses. By applying spatial modeling supported microzonation technique to the selected Nasrettin Hodja settlement area near Sivrihisar, which is focused on tourism, Astrotourism targeted blue flag potential areas were suggested. These results will provide a scientific basis for the development of development strategies in the axis of contribution to the sustainable tourism of the study area.
