Abstract

Lactation is the breastfeeding period in which the mammary glands develop and mature and milk is secreted together with the hormones produced during pregnancy. Breastfeeding is an important process that brings many benefits for the baby and mother. As the mother continues to breastfeed, as long as she pays attention to her nutrition and exercises, a decrease in body mass index (BMI) is observed with weight loss. In this study, it was aimed to examine the breastfeeding, nutrition and physical activity status of mothers. 26 women in the third month of lactation were included in the study and the study was analyzed online due to the pandemic. When the correlation between breastfeeding duration and BMI values was examined, no statistically significant results were found (p>0.05). However, when the direction of the effect of breastfeeding frequency on BMI is examined; statistically significant results were found (p 0.05), a negative moderate correlation was observed between the frequency of consumption of dried fruit in snacks and BMI three months after birth in the same period. When the BMI value three months after birth and the frequency of exercise were analyzed, the p value was borderline significant (0.05<p<0.10), and a negative moderate correlation (-0.644) was found in the statistical significance trend. Since this study on the effect of lactation, maternal nutrition and physical activity on maternal obesity risk was conducted in a small population and in a certain region, more recent studies are needed.
