Abstract
The aim of this study is to reveal the discourse on gender roles and representations in feminist science fiction through the stories in the book ‘Avunma Mekanizması’ (Mechanism of Defence) by Melisa Parlak, one of the local science fiction writers. For this purpose, six stories selected among the stories in the book (Men's Department, Loop, Private House: Pap Hara's, Author Factory, Unwanted) were examined within the framework of gender roles, gender stereotypes and gender behaviour-appearance. Even in different, alternative and dystopian universes/fiction, the responsibilities imposed on women are based on gender representations and roles. Attention was drawn to how gender roles and representations are shaped in feminist science fiction literature and how feminist science fiction literature is in a position to reproduce them. Within the scope of the research, six stories were analysed through critical discourse analysis, which is one of the qualitative research approaches. These analyses were conducted with van Dijk's Socio-Cognitive Approach. The findings of the study revealed that there is an ironic dystopian narrative in the analysed stories about gender roles, sexist individuals, gender inequality in social relations between men and women and male-dominated society.
Araştırma kapsamında altı öykü eleştirel söylem analizi ile incelenmiş, analizler Teun A. van Dijk’in Sosyo-Bilişsel Yaklaşımı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir.
