Abstract
This study aimed to examine the relationships between static and dynamic shooting performance and upper-extremity time to peak torque (TPT) and peak torque angle (PTA) in wheelchair basketball players. Fifteen volunteer athletes competing in the Turkish Wheelchair Basketball Super League participated in the study. Isokinetic measurements of elbow flexion/extension and shoulder horizontal abduction/adduction were performed at angular velocities of 60, 180, and 300°/s. Static and dynamic shooting performance was calculated as the ratio of successful shots to total shots during 24-second shooting tests. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the data, and the Benjamini–Hochberg false discovery rate (FDR) correction was applied for multiple comparisons. The findings indicated that static shooting performance was significantly associated with TPT and PTA values of elbow extension on the non-dominant side, TPT during shoulder horizontal abduction on the dominant side, and PTA during elbow flexion on the dominant side. Dynamic shooting performance was particularly associated with TPT variables during elbow extension, elbow flexion, and shoulder horizontal abduction on the dominant side. These results suggest that shooting performance in wheelchair basketball may be related not only to torque magnitude but also to the temporal and angular characteristics of torque production. However, because the study used a correlational design, the findings should not be interpreted causally.
