Abstract

In this study, where the package dyeing performances of cellulosic yarns with different supramolecular morphologies were spectrophotometrically examined, the linear interactions between the microstructural dynamics of the fibers and the macro-level color perception were clearly revealed. In light of the findings obtained, it was determined that the sample exhibiting the closest coordinates to the reference color tone and offering optimum color harmony was the 50%-50% Cotton-Linen blended yarn (∆E*=1,05 NSB); the dyeing disadvantage arising from the high crystallinity of linen was successfully compensated by incorporating cotton fiber into the structure. Among the regenerated cellulosic fibers group, it was determined that the 100% Tencel yarn (∆E*=1,28 NSB), thanks to the standard light reflections created by its circular cross-sectional geometry and smooth surface morphology, exhibited a much closer optical performance to the reference color compared to the 100% Viscose yarn (∆E*=2,02 NSB). In contrast, due to its tightly packed crystalline structure and high surface roughness, the 100% Linen yarn (∆E*=3,99 NSB) showed the greatest deviation from the reference color; moreover, the fact that all analyzed yarn types remained outside the industrial acceptance limits spectrophotometrically (“FAILED” output) proved that specific winding tension, bath recipe, and fixation optimizations unique to the fiber type are an absolute necessity in cellulosic yarn dyeing processes.
