Abstract
Biological control is an indispensable element for sustainable agriculture. In recent years, many disadvantages brought about by chemical control, such as environmental pollution, negative effects on human health, and resistance problems in the target organism, have been proven by scientific research. One of the most important outcomes of these studies is the awareness or increasing awareness of biological control by producers. For this purpose, biological control agents whose effects have been proven by previous studies; Biological control of Tomato moth [ (Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)] in Nallıhan district of Ankara province was carried out together with the producers in 2022, using the egg parasitoid Trichogramma evanescens Westwood (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) and the larval parasitoid Habrobracon hebetor Say (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). During the process, biological control was introduced visually and practically with 24 producers. Surveys were conducted with the same producers at the beginning and end of the study. The results of this survey were evaluated and the results were presented with frequency distribution tables and graphs. Releases of 75 insects/m² of T. evanescens and 1 insect/m² of H. hebetor were carried out every two weeks. As a result of the practical training given to producers and the introduction of biological control, while there was a 20.8% awareness of biological control at the beginning of the study, this rate increased to 87.5% at the end of the study. Practical and visual one-to-one studies with producers have had an impact on the adoption of innovation by producers and the creation of producer awareness.
