Abstract

This study examines the multidimensional role of ecological intelligence in explaining sustainable consumption behavior among higher education students. Ecological intelligence was addressed through holistic perspective, social intelligence, and economy, and their explanatory roles were evaluated for environmental sensitivity, unnecessary consumption, saving, and reusability. Survey data were obtained from students at Bayburt University, and 831 valid questionnaires were analyzed. The study employed reliability and validity analyses, correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression with demographic variables included as controls, and demographic group difference analyses. The findings show that ecological intelligence dimensions do not explain all aspects of sustainable consumption to the same extent even after demographic controls. Holistic perspective and social intelligence make stronger contributions to environmental sensitivity, saving, and reusability, whereas the economy dimension is negatively associated with unnecessary consumption and positively associated with saving. However, the incremental explanatory contribution of ecological intelligence to unnecessary consumption is low. The study shows that sustainable consumption can be interpreted more clearly when the distinct dimensions of ecological intelligence and sustainable consumption are considered together.

Özet

Bu çalışma, yükseköğretim öğrencilerinde ekolojik zekânın sürdürülebilir tüketim davranışını açıklamadaki çok boyutlu rolünü incelemektedir. Araştırmada ekolojik zekâ; bütünsel bakış açısı, sosyal zekâ ve ekonomi boyutlarıyla ele alınmış, bu boyutların sürdürülebilir tüketim davranışının çevreye duyarlılık, ihtiyaç dışı tüketim, tasarruf ve yeniden kullanılabilirlik boyutlarını hangi düzeyde açıkladığı değerlendirilmiştir. Veriler Bayburt Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerden anket yoluyla elde edilmiş ve 831 geçerli anket analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada güvenilirlik ve geçerlilik analizleri, korelasyon analizi, demografik değişkenlerin kontrol edildiği hiyerarşik çoklu regresyon ve demografik değişkenlere dayalı fark analizleri uygulanmıştır. Bulgular, demografik kontroller altında da ekolojik zekâ boyutlarının sürdürülebilir tüketimin tüm yönlerini aynı düzeyde açıklamadığını göstermektedir. Bütünsel bakış açısı ve sosyal zekâ çevreye duyarlılık, tasarruf ve yeniden kullanılabilirlikte daha belirgin katkı sunarken; ekonomi boyutu ihtiyaç dışı tüketimle negatif, tasarrufla pozitif yönde ilişkilidir. Bununla birlikte ekolojik zekâ boyutlarının ihtiyaç dışı tüketime ek açıklayıcı katkısı düşüktür. Çalışma, sürdürülebilir tüketim davranışının farklı boyutlarının farklı ekolojik zekâ bileşenleri üzerinden değerlendirilmesinin daha açıklayıcı olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.
