Abstract

The need for energy is increasing simultaneously with technological developments, increasing population and the desire for a better lifestyle. Increasing energy demand also triggers an increase in CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. In order to prevent this situation, the demand for sustainable, clean, renewable energy sources is on the agenda. Solar, wind, sea, biomass, geothermal, etc. energies obtained from sources reduce the problems caused by CO2 emissions and create a more sustainable environment. In Turkey, which is one of the richest countries in terms of geothermal resources, the temperature, pH and chemical content of the waters differ. These differences affect the service life of concrete-based materials in the facilities where geothermal waters are used, both as a result of the investigations carried out in existing geothermal facilities and as a result of literature research. For this purpose, geothermal waters in Turkey have been classified in terms of temperature and chemical content. Piper Diagram, one of the graphical methods of water chemistry, was used in the classification. As a result, it was observed that the wells containing sodium, chlorine and bicarbonate type water in Turkey are more abundant, generally have pH values below 10 and have different temperatures between 20-240°C. It has been observed that geothermal waters have different effects on concrete such as curing, abrasion, precipitation, etc., which are generally negative due to their different temperature and chemical properties.
