Abstract

In this study, rotor geometries of traditional switched reluctance motor (SRM) have been modified and electrical and magnetic quantities (inductance, generated instantaneous and average torques, air gap power) of the 6/4 SRM’s obtained from analytical and predicted by finite element method (Ansoft Maxwell 3D) have been compared. Different rotor pole geometry like chamfering and skewing of the rotor pole and air gapping between the tooth have been caused to obtain five type of designing models. This paper examines effects on the rotor torque that simple variations of the standard pole face profile could have, basically from an elementary viewpoint of how the modified profiles affect the phase inductance and produced instantaneous shaft torque, relationship of average torque and air-gap power
