Abstract
Wheat is a traditional field crop grown over vast areas worldwide, serving as the primary food source for more than half of the world's population, while also providing an important feed source through its grain and straw. Its cultivation dates back to ancient times. One of the key factors affecting wheat yield and quality is weeds. Due to its ease of application, rapid effectiveness, and low cost, herbicides are used intensively in the control of weeds in wheat production. This study determined the resistance status of ryegrass to ALS (Acetolactate synthase, mesosulfuron-methyl + iodosulfuron-methyl sodium) and ACCase (Acetyl CaO carboxylase, diclofop-methyl, tralkoxydim) inhibitor herbicides, which were intensively used in wheat production areas in the provinces of Balıkesir and Çanakkale between 2015 and 2020. As a result of the field studies conducted for this purpose, 136 ryegrass (Lolium rigidum L.) populations were collected from wheat production areas in the provinces of Balıkesir and Çanakkale, and the coordinates of the fields from which seeds were collected were determined. The collected ryegrass populations were sown in a greenhouse to obtain F2 offspring. The obtained F2 populations were subjected to a 2N (dose) screening test in greenhouse conditions with herbicides containing the active ingredients mesosulfuron-methyl + iodosulfuron-methyl sodium, diclofop-methyl, and tralkoxydim. To determine the resistance status of populations suspected of resistance based on the screening test results, dose-response trials were established under greenhouse conditions using 6 different doses of 3 different herbicides. As a result of the greenhouse studies, resistance was detected in 8 populations to mesosulfuron-methyl + iodosulfuron-methyl sodium, in 8 populations to diclofop-methyl, and in 9 populations to tralkoxydim.
