Abstract

In the Ottoman Empire, the first census was carried out in 1830-1831, as is known in general. When the counting officers sent to the countryside for tahrir returned to the capital, they left a copy of the counting books at the counting site, while the other copy was brought to Istanbul. In addition, it has been decided to keep the population polling books every 6 months to determine demographic movements such as birth, death, internal and external in the province, and send them to Istanbul. In this context, Ceride Odası was established in the capital, Istanbul, to clean up the population books on which additions and extractions were made. The institution, which had approximately 5-10 personnel ink in the first year, grew and developed over time. In the study, the development and change of the institution over time was explained by the central and provincial structure since the first establishment of ceride chamber. In addition, since the establishment of the room – can be determined – and the work of their staff is also mentioned in their salaries
