Abstract

Envy in the workplace is often considered as an unpleasant feeling that causes negative consequences, yet studies in the national literature on envy are limited. Based on this, this study aims to adapt the workplace envy scale into Turkish and examine the relationship between employees' psychological ownership for the criterion-dependent validity of the scale. The study was carried out with convenience sampling method with participants from the public (N=337) and private sectors (N=547). Research findings revealed that as in the original scale, the scale consists of two dimensions, envy and being envied. The results indicated that both envy and being envied dimension averages of the workplace envy scale were higher in public employees than private-sector employees. There is a weaker but statistically significant relationship between envying others dimension and psychological ownership in the context of private-sector employees.
