Abstract

The awarding of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has generated profound ideological reflections across global media. The primary objective of this study is to examine how international media outlets discourse the same event through diverging ideological lenses and how the discourse of "peace" is reconstructed via media representation. The theoretical framework of the research is built upon the concepts of mediatization, symbolic power, and postcolonial critique. Methodologically, the study employs Teun A. Van Dijk’s Socio-Cognitive Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model. Accordingly, twelve news texts published by six media organizations representing distinct geopolitical axes (AP News, TIME, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Anadolu Agency, and Cumhuriyet) were analyzed at both macro and micro structural levels. The findings demonstrate that rather than presenting an objective reality, news texts reflect the ideological and political positioning of their producing institutions. The analysis reveals four primary discourses: the "democracy versus authoritarianism" narrative constructed by Western media, the instrumentalization of foreign news for US domestic politics, the "anti-imperialist and anti-Zionist" counter-hegemonic discourse produced by Global South and Middle Eastern media, and the nationalist-independence axis. Ultimately, the study proves that lexical choices, syntactic structures, and rhetorical strategies in media texts serve as direct reflections of global power struggles and hegemonic contestations.

Özet

2025 Nobel Barış Ödülü'nün Venezuelalı muhalefet lideri María Corina Machado'ya verilmesi, küresel medyada derin ideolojik yansımalar bulmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, uluslararası medya kuruluşlarının aynı olayı nasıl farklı ideolojik söylemlerle sunduğunu ve "barış" söyleminin medya aracılığıyla nasıl yeniden inşa edildiğini incelemektir. Araştırmanın kuramsal zemini; medyatikleşme, sembolik güç ve postkolonyal eleştiri kavramları üzerine inşa edilmektedir. Yöntem olarak Teun A. Van Dijk’ın Sosyo-Bilişsel Eleştirel Söylem Analizi (ESA) modeli kullanılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda, farklı jeopolitik eksenleri temsil eden altı medya kuruluşunda (AP News, TIME, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Anadolu Ajansı ve Cumhuriyet) yayımlanan on iki haber metni makro ve mikro düzeyde analiz edilmektedir. Bulgular, haber metinlerinin nesnel bir gerçeklik sunmaktan ziyade, üretildikleri kurumun ideolojik ve politik konumunu yansıttığını göstermektedir. Araştırma sonucunda dört temel söylem tespit edilmektedir: Batı medyasının inşa ettiği "demokrasi ve otoriterlik" anlatısı, dış haberi ABD iç siyasetine araçsallaştıran yaklaşım, Küresel Güney ve Orta Doğu medyasının ürettiği "anti-emperyalist ve Siyonizm karşıtı" karşı-hegemonik söylem ile ulusalcı-bağımsızlıkçı eksen. Çalışma, medya metinlerindeki sözcüksel tercihlerin, sentaktik yapıların ve retorik stratejilerin küresel iktidar mücadelelerinin ve hegemonya savaşlarının doğrudan birer yansıması olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.
