Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of local and global shocks-considered influential on the BIST 100 Index-on market returns in the period following the 2008 global financial crisis using the Quantile-on-Quantile Regression (QQR) approach, which accounts for the entire distribution of returns. Shocks are classified into different categories, and shock indicators constructed through event windows are matched with BIST100 returns. The QQR results show that the impact of shocks varies depending on the market regime and the intensity of the shock. Heat maps and three-dimensional surface visualizations indicate that the effects are not homogeneously distributed across the quantile space and become more concentrated under extreme market conditions. The findings suggest stronger regime dependence for exchange-rate and monetary policy shocks, while global risk shocks exhibit threshold-like transmission mechanisms. Overall, the results indicate that quantile-based approaches capture asymmetric and nonlinear pricing dynamics more effectively than mean-based methods.
