Abstract

This study was conducted to improve white dent varieties of maize for second crop conditions in the Mediterranean region. 7 inbred lines were developed by Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute; and their partial diallel cross hybrids were used as material of investigation. On the yield trial, F values were significant at p=0,01 level for entries. The variances of general and specific combining ability were statistically significant for all the traits studied. Furthermore, the variance ratio of GCA/GCA+SCA effects for yield was 0.32. This indicates that both additive and non-additive gene effects were important for grain yield of white dent hybrid corns. Akd 90-2 x Metelik-3, Metelik-2 x Metelik-8 and Akd 90-2 x Metelik-2 white dent hybrid corns are more yielded than others, and they are the promising hybrids for the Mediterranean region according to the results of the analyses.
