Abstract

The effects of cold shock treatment an pepper buds and additions of activated charcoal to double layered nutrient medium on the abscisic acid (ABA) content of the anthers in pepper (Demre Sivrisi and 11 B 14 cvs.) anther cultures were investigated. This effects of these treatments 80, 90, 100 hours at 4C, and 5 to 9 days at 9C period were used. Activated charcoal is added to the agar solidified layer of the double layered medium at 1% concentration after been filtered. Cold shock treatment and addition of activated charcoal to nutrient medium decreased the ABA content of the anthers. The decrease was most apparent in anthers grown within the regeneration medium contains activated charcoal in an environment 9C for 9 days. In the experiments cold shock and addition activated charcoal decreased ABA content in anthers but had no positive effect on embryo formation.
