Abstract

Cannabis is generally regarded as a transitional substance in the process of testing heavier substances compared to other substance use examples. On the other hand, there is a perception that it is not addictive. In this respect, it has a special position in terms of substance use types. On the other hand, peer/friend effect is one of the important parameters that are effective in starting and continuing to use cannabis. This study was designed to examine the effect of peer and friends circle on cannabis use. In this study, which was prepared according to qualitative research design, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 young people aged between 15-25. The interviews were interpreted with a thematic method explaining the effect of peer / friends circle. Accordingly, it was found that peer / friend group had effects such as initiating, encouraging and reminding use of cannabis. On the other hand, it has been saw that it is accepted as an economic support and security element in the process of useage and consequently increases the frequency and amount of useage. As a result, it is understood that peer / friendship relationships have a significant effect on the initiation and maintenance of cannabis use.
