Abstract
There is a strong connection between literature and society and its problems. Theories that approach literature from a social perspective were born out of this connection. However, regardless of their ideology, all movements that attribute a utility function to literature should be considered socialist. Although the relationship between various types of literature and social life was encountered in the 19th century, the sociology of literature began to develop in the mid-20th century. However, since this subject has not been addressed systematically, it has not yet become a complete and consistent discipline. Elements of the sociology of literature defined as “product/work, author, reader, publication/publication” contribute to the discipline, but using these elements together requires a multi-dimensional study. In this respect, author, reader and society-centered studies are also accepted as literary sociology studies. In this study, which aims to examine Kemal Ateş's novel titled Toprak Kovgunları in the context of literary sociology, an author and society-centered approach has been adopted according to the subject of the work. The subject of the novel is migration from Anatolia to Ankara. In this context, the problems caused by migration were analyzed in depth through sociological themes such as “deprivation of minimum living conditions”, “village-urban conflict”, “understanding the importance of education” and “alienation”. In addition to the content, the novel's plot, time, place, characters and narrative features were also evaluated. In addition to its content, the plot of the novel, time, setting, characters, and narrative features are also evaluated. In this respect, the study presents the aesthetic value of the novel along with its sociological dimension.
