Abstract

Expressing emotions is a part of communication. It is considered that people who are aware of their own feelings and who can express their feelings are the more quite successful in understanding others’ feelings and controlling their own feelings. The aim of this study is to reveal the relation between the levels of emotional intelligence of the Turkish teacher candidates and their ability to express basic feelings (joy, sadness, love, hate, fear, anger, shame and amazement). In this study, correlational research design, which is one of the relational scanning methods, is used. This design tries to find the relation between two or more variables. The data in this study has been collected from Faculty of Art and Science, the department of Turkish Language and Literacy and Education Faculty, Turkish Education department students at Gaziantep University (n = 489). When selecting the sample group, an easily accessible (convenions) sampling technique has been used. The data of the study has been collected by the reviewed Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale and Emotion Transfer Form. The data obtained in the study were analyzed with Crosstabs Cross Table (Pearson Chi Square test) and t test was used for independent samples. In the study, it’s been determined a statistically significant relationship between the levels of emotional intelligence of Turkish teacher candidates and their ability to express emotions and it is seen that there is also a negative relationship between the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence and the ability to express emotions
