Abstract

In many studies conducted on creativity in education, it is emphasized that the methods-techniques used in educational environments, the environment, and the physical environment are important in developing children's creativity. In education, the teacher is the primary factor that creates these dynamics. The practices and philosophies of teachers regarding creativity in the early childhood years are very important for the development of children. This study employs the basic qualitative research method to investigate the perspectives of preschool teachers on creativity. The study group of the research consists of 30 preschool teachers working in nursery classes affiliated with the Ministry of National Education and independent kindergartens in the provinces of Kırklareli and Tokat, determined by the criterion sampling method from the purposeful sampling methods. When the findings obtained with the descriptive analysis method were examined, three main themes were reached: (1) creative teacher, (2) creative child, and (3) developing creativity. Regarding the creative teacher, the teachers focused on their own creativity, creativity as a behavior and way of thinking, and creativity that produces products. In the creative children theme, the teachers underscored the traits of creative children and their methods of assessing their creativity, whereas in the creativity development theme, they concentrated on the process of fostering both children's and their own creativity.
