Abstract

The qualitative algal flora of Karagöl Lake was investigated between No vember 1999 andOctober 2000 in plankton, epipelic, epiphytic and epilithic habitats. In the research, the totalnumber of taxa recorded was 196. Out of these, 120 belong to Bacillariophta, 41 toChlorophyta, 24 to Cyanophyta, 9 to Euglenophyta and 2 to Di nophyta. The most organizmaldiversity was found in epipelic and epiphytic flora. From trophic level point of view, the algalcomposition of the lake showed variations. Comperatively, it was observed that Karagöl hasmore algal diversity than other lakes i n Ankara and its surroundings. The Lake had moresimilarities with the other lakes in terms of Bacillariophyta. Because of the narrowness of thesurface area, limited co astal region and being a picnic ground, the lake is susceptible toeutrophication especially in spring and summer months. Average temperature was 21.5normal for summer months but average dissolved oxygen was recorded as 6.9 mgI-1which waslow for the same months
