Abstract
Transition to the multi-party system, marked by the end of the 27-year-long rule of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the rise of the Democratic Party (DP) government in 1950, which lasted for a decade, constitutes one of the turning points in Turkish political life and the process of democratization. Focusing on the years of CHP rule from 1923 to 1940 and DP rule from 1950 until the military coup in 1960, this study examines the educational-cultural and press-media policies of both parties through the conceptual frameworks of Louis Althusser’s Ideological State Apparatuses (ISA) and Antonio Gramsci’s notion of hegemony, thereby aiming to reveal the continuity of authoritarian policies across both periods.
