Abstract
The aim of this study is to reveal the organizational diversity of religious community structures in modernizing Türkiye and to analyze the concept of “social proliferation,” which corresponds to a strategy of pluralizing expansion, specifically within the Nur movement. In this study, which adopted a qualitative research design, the data were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques within the framework of the defined concepts. In this context, the sociology of religious groups literature, the works of Said Nursî, historical data, and field studies are examined comparatively. According to the research findings, purely religious groups in Türkiye are classified into three main categories: “traditional orders, new religious communities, and religious-political formations.” It has been determined that the Nur movement, which constitutes the focus of the study, has pluralized by dividing into seven main factions—namely “Yazıcılar (Scribes), Okuyucular (Readers), Yeni Asya, Ethnic Groups, Aczmendiler, Gülenists, and Digital Generation Nurcus”—as a result of its text-centered structure and changing leadership dynamics. It has been argued that these divisions do not represent an organizational weakening for a religious movement; rather, they constitute a strategy of expansion driven by historical context, technological developments, and adaptation to socio-cultural conditions. Ultimately, it has been concluded that the concept of social proliferation is a process that explains how religious groups can divide themselves in modern society, penetrate different social strata, and ensure their continuity, emphasizing the dynamic change in group structure.
