\r\n This study tries to determine the factors which affect occupational choices and the priorities which considered important on such choices of the students of Balıkesir University School of Tourism and Hotel Management. The data of this research is obtained from a survey implemented on 263 students. According to the findings, students plan to work in tourism sector for a relatively short period of time. On the other hand, the most important factor that affects the occupational choices of students is "career expectations" which is followed by "personal characteristics". And the least effective factor is "family and societal influences". While there is a significant relation between the factors which affect occupational choices and demographical variables such as sex and program they attend; there is no relation between students‟ age and the factors.\r\n
Özet
\r\n Bu araştırmada, Balıkesir Üniversitesi Turizm Ġşletmeciliği ve Otelcilik Yüksek Okulu öğrencilerinin meslek seçimini etkileyen faktörler ve meslek seçiminde dikkate aldıkları öncelikler tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırma, 263 öğrenciden anket yöntemiyle toplanan verilerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgulara göre, öğrencilerin gelecekte turizm sektöründe çalışmaya yönelik tutumları, bir süre çalışmayı düşündükleri yönündedir. Öte yandan, öğrencilerin meslek seçimini etkileyen en önemli faktör, kariyer beklentisidir. Bunu, kişisel özellikler faktörü takip etmektedir. Öğrencilerin meslek seçiminde en az etkili olan faktör ise, aile ve çevre etkisi, olarak saptanmıştır. Öğrencilerin yaşı ile meslek seçimini etkileyen faktörler arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmazken; cinsiyet ve öğrenim gördükleri bölüm gibi demografik değişkenler ile meslek seçimini etkileyen bazı faktörler arasında anlamlı ilişkiler tespit edilmiştir.\r\n
