Abstract

Purpose – This study's goal is to test and investigate how employees' addiction to social media affects their fear of missing out (FOMO) and task performance within a model-based framework. Methodology – 206 people who work as administrative employees at Süleyman Demirel University make up the study's sample. The acquired data was analyzed using the SPSS 26 and AMOS 23 tools. SPSS was used for descriptive statistics about the participants, scale reliability, normalcy distribution, and correlation analysis, while AMOS was used for confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Findings – According to the correlation analysis's findings, there were no significant relationships between the participants' fear of missing developments and task performance and their social media addictions, but there were significant relationships between these two factors and their fear of missing out on things.. Conclusions – The levels of social media addiction among the participants were found to have a significant negative impact on their task performance levels, while having a significant positive impact on their fear of missing out, according to the findings of SEM analysis carried out within the framework of the established model.
