The This article covers the etymological root of the concept “criticism”, its sense, its aim, its application and the specific points that are to be paid relatively great attention in the course of this process. In addition, it embraces the criticism exemplifications carried out by Turks throughout the period from Orkhun Monuments up until now. Besides, in this study we also realized a scientific definition of both literary and scientific criticism.

Bu makalede, tenkit sözünün nereden geldiği, eleştiri sözünün ne zamandan beri bu söz yerine kullanıldığı; eleştirinin anlamı, amacı, nasıl yapılması gerektiği, eleştiri yaparken dikkat edilmesi gereken hususlar ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca, ilk yazılı kaynaklarımız sayılan Orhun Abidelerinden günümüze kadar geçen süreçte, Türkler tarafından yapılan eleştiri örneklerinden bahsedilmiştir. Edebî ve bilimsel eleştirinin tanımı yapılmış, özellikle bilimsel eleştirinin son yıllardaki durumu da değerlendirilmiştir.
