Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the extent to which the components of the nature of science (NOS) and the nature of scientific inquiry (NOSI) are incorporated into the Science Curriculum of the Türkiye Century Maarif Model, updated in 2024. The study was conducted using a qualitative research design, specifically document analysis. The data were obtained from the science curriculum published by the Ministry of National Education. During the analysis process, learning outcomes and process components within the curriculum were evaluated using two distinct analytical frameworks developed for NOS and NOSI themes. The findings revealed that, among the NOS themes, greater emphasis was placed on “empiricism” and “theoretical assumptions,” whereas themes such as “theories and laws” and “social and cultural influences” were addressed to a limited extent. Regarding NOSI, the themes of “beginning with a question” and “variety of scientific methods” were found to be more prominent. However, it was also determined that certain themes and codes were entirely absent from the curriculum. Based on these results, suggestions were presented to improve the curriculum to more comprehensively and evenly cover NOS and NOSI components. This study is expected to contribute to the enhancement of curriculum development processes and promote a science education approach focused on scientific literacy.
