Abstract

This study aims to examine the main determinants of economic growth through a holistic approach within the framework of industrialization, technological intensity, export capacity, global competitiveness, and macroeconomic stability. In this context, the analysis was conducted using the panel AMG method with data from the period 1990–2024 for the BRICS-T countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Turkey). While per capita income was considered as the dependent variable, per capita manufacturing value added, per capita manufacturing exports, the share of medium- and high-technology products, and the share in global manufacturing exports were included in the model as independent variables. Additionally, the inflation rate was used as a control variable to represent macroeconomic stability. The findings indicate that the level of industrialization, technological intensity, and export capacity have positive and statistically significant effects on economic growth, whereas inflation has a negative effect on growth. It was also determined that the share in global manufacturing exports does not have a statistically significant effect. These results reveal that exports alone are not sufficient for economic growth and that growth is shaped more by the level of industrialization, technological intensity, and the quality of the production structure. In this respect, the study emphasizes the multidimensional nature of economic growth and offers a more comprehensive perspective to the export-led growth approach in the literature.
