Abstract

This study examines the right to education for children in Gaza from a multidimensional perspective amid the severe humanitarian crisis triggered by Israel’s intensified military operations since 2023. The systematic targeting of educational infrastructure, mass displacement, digital inequities, and the psychosocial trauma of war have collectively transformed education from a purely pedagogical process into a struggle for human resilience and survival. In this context, education serves not only as a means of individual development but also as a vital mechanism for psychological recovery, social cohesion, collective belonging, and the reconstruction of the future. The theoretical framework draws on the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the “education in fragility” model developed by Novelli, Lopes Cardozo, and Smith, complemented by Pherali’s perspective on the transformative and healing role of education in contexts of conflict and crisis. Using qualitative content analysis, the study systematically reviews recent reports from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), along with relevant academic literature. Findings reveal that children’s right to education in Gaza is subject to persistent, multidimensional, and structural violations. Accordingly, the study proposes comprehensive policy recommendations emphasizing enhanced digital inclusion, the expansion of trauma-informed pedagogical approaches, the effective enforcement of international protection obligations, and the institutional strengthening of local civil society initiatives.
