Abstract
Reading is an interactive process that proceeds in coordination with the analysis of the linguistic codes of a written text by the reader. In written discourse, the text producer makes certain discursive arrangements for his own discourse in order to present a holistic framework of the information in the text for various communicative purposes. The author's own discourse arrangements not only support the interaction between the text producer and the reader, but also affect the process of remembering and comprehence a text by presenting a holistic framework to the reader by clarifying the author's communicative intention. Teaching such discursive arrangements in the development of reading and writing skills, which is one of the main purposes of mother tongue education, is important in terms of students' interpretation of texts in the reading process and producing good texts that interact with the reader. Reading and writing are also included in the Turkish Language Curriculum (2019) as an achievement. With this perspective, in this study, the discursive arrangements in the informative texts in the secondary school Turkish 5th and 8th grade textbooks and directing the reader are evaluated within the framework of the Prediction Categories (Enumeration, Advanced Labeling, Reporting, Recapitulation, Hypotheticality, Question) proposed by Tadros (1998). For this purpose, firstly, Tadros' classification was introduced through the examples in the texts selected by the researchers, and then the current classification was used to analyze the discursive arrangements in the informative texts in the Turkish textbooks. As a result of the study, it was found that various prediction expressions were found in the texts at both levels; It was determined that the highest frequency was observed in the Reporting category in the 5th grade Turkish textbook, and in the Question category in the 8th grade Turkish textbook. When the current findings are evaluated, it is thought that the representation of discursive arrangements in textbooks as one of the main tools of mother tongue education is important in terms of developing reading strategies, supporting schema knowledge, recognizing the linguistic arrangements specific to the text genre and producing texts that interact with the text receiver.
