Abstract
Aim: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonoticinfection caused by the metacestod form ofechinoccosus granulosus in the world and inour country emerges as a major public healthproblem. This study aimed to detect theprevalance of KE in the patients who came toİnönü Universty Turgut Özal Medical CenterDepartment of Parasitology SerologyLabratory suspected by CE between January2008- July 2012.Methods: In this study, 1433 patients whowere applied to İnönü Universty Turgut ÖzalMedical Center Department of ParasitologySerology Labratory suspected by CE betweenJanuary 2008 - July 2012 were evaluated.Spesific anti- E.granulosus antibodies wereinvastigated in patient serum samples withEnzyme Linked immunosorbent assay(ELİSA) IgG test and indirect Hemaglutinationtechnique. Results: There were totaly 1433 patients and649 of them were positive. When we analyzedthe distribution of positive causes by sex, 383patient were women and 254 patient were men515 of 243 serum samples which were beenstudied with technique of IHA betweenJanuary 2008 - February 2012 and 123 of 189serum samples which were been studied whithELİSA technique were positive. Conclusion: High seropositivity rate of %45.04 obtained in our study shows that CE is aimportant public problem in our in our region.
