TEKNOLOJİK DEĞİŞİM VE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME İLİŞKİSİ: TÜRKİYE ÜZERİNE BİR UYGULAMA

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: AN APPLICATION ON TURKEY

Özet

Bilginin üretimde kullanımı olarak ifade edilebilecek olan teknoloji, ekonomik verimlilik ve rekabetin en önemli unsuru olarak kabul edilmektedir. Teknolojik gelişimin ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisini açıklayan teoriler genel olarak Solow tarafından gündeme getirilen neo-klasik geleneğe dayanmakta ve bu teorilerde teknolojik gelişimin kaynağı dışsal varsayılmaktadır. 1980’li yılların sonlarından itibaren gündeme gelmeye başlayan içsel büyüme modellerinde ise büyümenin, ekonomik aktörlerin kâr maksimizasyonu kararlarının sonuçlandırdığı teknolojik değişimle içsel bir şekilde belirlendiği ifade edilmektedir. Türkiye ekonomisinde teknolojik gelişimin ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisini inceleyen bu çalışmada Dünya Bankası ve Türkiye İstatistik Kurumundan temin edilen ve 1990-2019 yıllarını kapsayan; Kişi Başına Düşen GSYİH, Gayri Safi Sermaye Oluşumu, İşgücüne Katılım Oranı ve Ar-Ge Harcaması/GSYİH verileri VAR ve Johansen Eşbütünleşme Analizi yöntemiyle test edilmiştir. Çalışma sonuçlarına göre teknolojik gelişme ekonomik büyümeyi pozitif yönde etkilemektedir.

Abstract

Technology, which is defined as the use of knowledge in production, is accepted as the most important element of economic productivity and competition. The theories that explain the effect of technological development on economic growth is generally based on the neo-classical tradition brought forward by Solow, and according to these theories, the source of technological development is assumed to be external. In the endogenous growth models that have come to the fore since the late 1980s, it is stated that the growth is determined internally by the technological change that results from the profit maximization decisions of the economic actors. This study analyzes the effect of technological development on the economic growth in the Turkish economy for the period of 1990-2019 with GDP per Capita, Gross Capital Formation, Labor Force Participation Rate and R&D/GDP variables that were obtained from the websites of the World Bank and the Turkish Statistical Institute. According to the results of this study conducted with the VAR and Johansen Cointegration Analysis methods, it can be stated that technolojical development affects economic growth positively.
