Abstract

Abstract The odd Quran recitations are the ways of recitations that the prophet companions inherited from the prophet (Peace be upon on him) and used on the daily bases. However, these ways of recitation did not reach consensus in their originality among prophet companions. In other words, Quran was first read by people who came from different tribal dialects so it was easier for them to comprehend. Does that mean that these dialects were formal enough to be one of the main sources of the Arabic language? What role do these tribal dialects have in the widespread of the verbal Arabic language? What is the relationship between today’s informal dialects (slangs) and the odd Quran recitation? The current study aims to find out answers to these questions through a descriptive extrapolative method which analyzes samples of these Quran recitations. It also aims to approve the relationship between these dialects and their original Arab tribes, and link them to the current dialects in the Arab counties nowadays. The researcher found out that the spread of these dialects nowadays can be divided into two categories: the first one is the word usage in which words can be read and used in various ways. The second is the word formation which can be by adding or deleting a letter, and sometimes by changing the position of a letter. To conclude, there are a number of words used among people today are the formal language of the old Arab tribes, and that the old Quran recitations kept these words and its origins until today. This study proved that these words were common dialect mistakes committed by users nowadays.
