Zotion Adı ve Ignatius’un Mektubunun Güvenilirliği

Özet

Antiokheia’lı Ignatius Magnesia’lılara mektubunda Zotion adında bir deacon’dan bahsetmektedir (Magn. 2). Bu şahıs ismi Aşağı Menderes Havzası, özellikle de Priene için karakteristiktir ve bu yönüyle Ignatius’un mektuplarının güvenilirliğini doğrulamaktadır. Mektupların editörleri Zotion’u Sotion olarak düzeltmeyi deneseler de Priene’den elde edilen epigrafik veriler Ignatius’un bahsettiği diakon’un gerçekten de Zotion adını taşıdığını göstermektedir.

Abstract

In his Letter to the Magnesians Ignatius of Antioch mentions a deacon named Zotion (Magn. 2). This name is typical of the region of the lower Meander, especially of Priene, and can serve to authentify the letters of Ignatius. Although editors of the letters attempted to replace the name Zotion by Sotion, the epigraphic evidence of Priene shows that the deacon mentioned by Ignatius has actually been called Zotion.
