Abstract
The portrait statue, which is introduced to the science of archaeology for the first time, was unearthed in 2016during the excavations conducted at the west gate in Perge. The dressed portrait sculpture, which was used as asewer cover in the late period, was discovered as two parts, a head and a torso. Identity and period proposal havebeen suggested for the piece by being examined the hair style of the portrait head representing a young man, othercharacteristic features and the stylistic features of the sculptural piece. First of all, the hair style of the portraitstatue, of which condition and definition was carried out, has been interpreted. The beard shape created withsideburns along with the hairstyle applied is similar to the IIIrd type portrait (230-235 AD) of Alexander Severus, the last emperor of the Severan Dynasty, who reigned between 222-235 AD. Apart from the hair tresses designedon the forehead, the voluminous, active and trending hairstyle in different directions along with other distinctivecharacteristics differ the man head from the emperor portrait of the period in which it was dated. The other stylisticfeatures of the portrait statue, inspired by the IIIrd type portraits of Alexander Severus, are unique to the period ofthe Severan Dynasty, in which the emperor was included. In addition, the Dokimeion was assumed about theproducing place of the portrait statue sculpted of fine-grained white marble.
