“MODERNLİĞİN” TANZİM TANZİM ETTİĞİ GARDIROPLAR: TANZİMAT DÖNEMİ ROMANLARINDA GİYİM-KUŞAM

Özet

Giyim biçimi toplumdan topluma değişiklik göstermektedir. Dönem şartlarına ve beğeni anlayışına göre şekillenen giyimdeki değişim ve dönüşüm, toplumların birbirleriyle etkileşime girmesinden etkilenmektedir. Osmanlı Devleti dönemindeki çok uluslu yapı giyim kuşamda farklılıklar getirmiş; toplumların/bireylerin sosyal, ekonomik ve dinî unsurlarının tanımlanmasında önemli unsurlar olmuştur. Giyim, bu makale kapsamında incelenen Tanzimat Dönemi roman yazarlarının topluluğa aktarmak istedikleri düşüncelerinin bir aracı olmuştur. Bu çalışmada, Tanzimat dönemi romanlarından Felâtun Bey ile Râkım Efendi, Taaşşuk-ı Talat ve Fitnat, Araba Sevdası ve İntibah romanlarında giyimin dönemsel anlamı, değişimi, üretimi ve kullanım biçimi irdelenmiştir. Bahse konu romanlarda giyim-kuşam, karakterlerin dinlerini, mesleklerini, statülerini göstermelerinin yanı sıra dönemdeki toplumsal olayları değerlendiriş biçimlerinin ve düşüncelerinin birer yansımasıdır. Alafranga karakterlerin giyimlerinde israf, marka tutkuları ve Batı’nın giyim tarzına yakınlıkları gözlemlenmiştir. Alaturka karakterlerin ise geleneksel kıyafetleri tercih ettikleri görülmüştür. Yazarlar tarafından karakterler geleneksel kıyafet giymeyi, üretmeyi tercih edenler ve Batılı giyinmeyi tercih edenler olarak ayrılmıştır. Bu ayrım yalnız dış görünüşün farlılığı üzerinde değildir; iki farklı bakış açısının da simgesidir.

Abstract

The way of dressing varies from society to society. The change and transformation in clothing, which is shaped according to the conditions of the period and the understanding of taste, is also affected by the interaction of societies with each other. The multinational structure in the Ottoman Empire period brought differences in clothing; have been important factors in defining the social, economic and religious elements of societies/individuals. Clothing has been a tool for the ideas that the novelists of the Tanzimat Period, examined within the scope of this article, wanted to convey to the community. In this study, the periodical meaning, change, production and usage of clothing in the novels Felâtun Bey and Râkım Efendi, Taaşşuk-ı Talat ve Fitnat, Araba Sevdası and İntibah, which are among the novels of the Tanzimat period, were examined. Clothing in the aforementioned novels is a reflection of the way the characters evaluate the social events in the period and their thoughts, as well as showing their religion, profession and status. Waste, brand passion and closeness to the Western style of clothing have been observed in the clothing of the Alafranga characters. It has been observed that Turkish characters prefer traditional clothes. The characters are divided by the authors into those who prefer to wear traditional clothes, those who prefer to produce, and those who prefer to dress in Western. This distinction is not only on the difference of appearance; It is a symbol of two different perspectives.
