Abstract

Among his poems Les Fleurs du Mal, “Cygne” have a very special place in relaying Baudelaire’s conception of time and memory. The semantic details of poem show us the way the poet perceives the “eternal present” beyond the notion of time. The essential poetic categories of Baudelaire’s “modernité” help us to verify Ricoeur’s assertions in his La mémoire, l’histoire, l’oubli. In “Cygne” the reader discovers the temporal movement from Antiquity to modernity into a conception and a vision of the world bringing to the forefront the essential Notion of “Modernité”. The poem opens new doors for sociopolitical and historical interpretations
