Abstract

In this study, dynamic behaviour of volatile organic compounds such as methanol, aceton, benzene and toluen in porous dry soil has been investigated by the use of single pellet moment technique. For this purpose, one-sided single pellet adsorption cell was used. Dynamic single pellet experiments were carried out with the pellets having total porosity of 0.49 at 1 atm for temperatures ranging from 30 °C to 70 °C. As a result of interpretation of zeroth moments of tracers studied in soil pellet, it has been observed that the tracers were adsorbed reversibly. The adsorption equilibrium constants and effective diffusivities of tracers in soil have been calculated by the interpretation of the first absolute moment and second centeral moment for temperatures ranging from 30 °C to 70 °C. The adsorption constants of tracers in soil used pellet decreased with increasing temperature. The values of adsorption heat obtained indicate that the adsorption of tracers are physically adsorbed on the soil. Effective diffusivities of tracers increased with the increase of temperature.
