Abstract
Publishing the insultingcartoons of the Prophetof Islam and Muslimsin the Jyllands-Postennewspaper in Denmarkon September 30, 2005caused many conflicts, andover one hundred peopledied. The events thathad taken place since thebeginning of the attackson September 11, 2001 inthe USA were explainedby the argument of "clashof civilizations" that is putforward by Hungtinton in1993. However, beyondthe confusion betweencivilizations, many othersocial, economic and otherdimensions must be takeninto account. Moreover, itis difficult to talk about therole of multiple civilizationsin these events.Because it is obvious thatthe main actors are Islamand the Western world. In addition, although theconsequences of theseevents have reached globaldimensions, it should notbe overlooked that thereare local specialties amongthe causes, especially in thecartoon crisis. In this article, the cartoonswill be addressed bothby Islamophobia in theWest and by Islamophobicattitude in Denmark andby the cultural stance andmanifestation of culturalphilosophy in Denmark. The fact that I was in Denmarkduring the period ofthe cartoon crisis enabledme to take advantage ofmy own observations toanalyze the causes and consequencesof the process, and to observe the localdimensions of the issue
