Abstract

References in religion by virtue of being referee, controller, and supporter premises, have a reinforcing, steering, motivating and an efficient efficacy in raising environmentally sensitive personalities. Analyzing the topic through the lenses of Islamic-theology, this paper underlines the notion of environment/universe, which are in close relationship, through its divine and humane facets. Core of the study bears a holistic approach towards the multi-relevance of Allah-mankind-environment, presented with the “tenet of tawhid”. The environment, in this per se entirety, has a self-value not only for the benefits it provides for mankind, but also from the perspective of being a masterpiece of the Creator’s capacity and power. Hence, even a minor disrespect against the environment shall also mean a contempt towards the Creator as well as an attempt breaching the pertaining rights of every single element within it. In this respect, the human-being is a crucial, afflicted and affecting member of such a line of values. It is the attitude and behavior of the mankind towards the environment and ultimately towards the Creator that will identify his own value. If the mankind accepts the nature as an asset entrusted by the Creator as “al-amanah”, and acts with a sense of responsibility based on rightfulness and justice rather than establishing tyranny over it, he will be considered to have fulfilled his caliphate duties. When the human-being manifests an egoist, insensitive, wasteful, and destructive personality, he will not only lose these qualifications but also sacrifice his health, happiness and peace earned through environment.
