Abstract

Kıllet (scarcity) and kesret (plentitude) are among the contemporary issues in the Qur’an, which were not subjected to the exploration and examination that they deserve. Researchers continue to publish on this topic. But previous studies are not sufficient. Imam Zaid b. Ali was the first individual who declaredan opinion on the issue. The term of scarcity means contempt, dignity and banishment. The concept of plentitude means plentitude and dignity and also used for numbers. The word of scarcity was used in the Qur’an in forms such as “kalle”, “akallet”, “yukallilüküm”, “kalilün” and “kalilen”. The concept of plentitude was used in many forms such as “kesura”, “kesurat”, “kesiran”, “eksar” and “tekasür”. The measure of scarcity and plentitude is as follows: When it is in Islamic circles, without doubt, rightful is the opinion of the majority in the community. But if the issue includes Muslims and non-Muslims in general, then the Muslims who are entitled to rights would be the minority among the people on earth. Scarcity was mentioned with several meanings in the Qur’an. Some of these are: worldly goods and pleasures, quantity, scarcity of allusion, gratitude and contemplation. Plentitude is also used in the Quran in several ways. Some of these are: the quantity, the multiplicity of unbelievers, not forgiving sufficiently, not expressing gratitude sufficiently, high count of non-thinkers, high number of those who doubt, excessive promotion of allusion, high count of those who do not like the giver of rights, high count of unwary ones, high count of humans who follow the djinns and high count of sinners.
