Abstract
Objective: The aim of the study is to determine the state of forgetfulness (digital dementia) of the nursing students due to the technology usage. Methodology: This survey was carried out with 386 nursing students who studied at an University, Faculty of Health Science, Nursing Department between March 1st and June 10th 2019. Data was collected using “Digital Dementia and Descriptive Characteristics Data Form” and “Phubbing Scale”. Findings: 52.1% of students stated that they spent between 4 hours and 7 hours on the internet during the day. The total mean scale scores of the students received from Phubbing scale were 26.0±6.8 and the mean subscale scores of the students were communication disorders (mean= 11.3 ± 3.5) and telephone obsession (mean= 14.8 ± 4.2). According to the status of nursing students` with the digital dementia, in which students “rarely” disagreed on the statements were “they had difficulty in memorizing their phone numbers” (49.5%), they were in struggle for remembering the names of people (53.9%) and they have forgetfulness (59.3%). Conclusion: It was determined that nursing students were not phubbing abused and forgetfulness due to usage of digital technology was rarely.
