Abstract
Purpose: This study was aimed to examine the effect of perceived spousal support of mothers in the early postpartum period on postpartum stress. Method: This study is cross-sectional and analytical type. The data were collected from 389 mothers who were in the early postpartum period with an online survey. Data were collected using a descriptive form, the Scale of Spousal Support Perceived by Women in the Early Postpartum Period, and the Postpartum Stress Factors Scale. Descriptive statistics (number, percentage, total score) and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Results: It was determined that the increase in the spousal support score perceived by the mothers influenced reducing the postpartum stress level (β=-0.093, p=0.049). It was found that “working mothers compared to non-working mothers” (β=- 2.330, p=0.000), “income equal to expenses” (β=-1.975, p=0.014) and “income more than expenses” (β=-1.998, p=0.030) have a reducing effect on postpartum stress. It was determined that the mothers' "having a bachelor's degree or higher education level of their spouses" (β=2.611, p=0.036), "having three or more children" (β=0.092, p=0.046) and “living in the city center” (β=2.653, p=0.033) increased postpartum stress. Conclusion: As the perceived spousal support of mothers increases, the level of postpartum stress decreases. Some socio-demographic and obstetric factors increase the postpartum stress of the mother.
