Abstract
Objective: This research was carried out to determine the experiences of patients diagnosed with tuberculosis during the COVID-19 pandemic process. Method: As a qualitative research, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 14 tuberculosis patients registered in Samsun İlkadım Tuberculosis Dispensary between 19 November and 15 December 2021. During the interviews, a semistructured interview form was used. The obtained data were analyzed according to the inductive thematic analysis procedure. Results: Two main themes were identified in this study. These are individual reactions and coping themes. These themes are divided into sub-themes. The sub-themes of the individual responses theme are emotional, physiological and behavioral responses, and the sub-themes of the coping theme are religious coping and acceptance. Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been determined that tuberculosis patients show individual reactions emotionally, physiologically and behaviorally when they are diagnosed, and they cope with these reactions by turning to religion and accepting methods. In order to reduce the physiological, emotional and behavioral reactions in tuberculosis patients and to teach effective coping techniques with these reactions, it is recommended that the patients be educated on the symptoms of tuberculosis, symptom management, treatment process, medications and stress coping techniques.
