Abstract
Aim: As parents are in the natural environment of their children and are in closest proximity to them, they are significantly important in the issue of prevention of child sexual abuse (CSA). This study aims to adapt the Body Safety Training (BST) Program, designed for pre-school aged children, to best reflect the contextual needs for Turkish culture and Turkish language. Method: The study was conducted as an adaptation exercise of the training program by means of a survey. Results: As a first step, the BST for parents was translated from the original English to Turkish by a fluently bi-lingual translator. Following the translation, the topics for each session of the Turkish training program was determined and the topics to be included in the program was organized into sessions. The opinions of ten academics (Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors) in the fields of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Social Pedagogy, Psychiatric Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Psychological Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, Child Development, Forensic Medicine and Pre-School Education were sought. The expert feedback was analyzed according to the Kendall W coefficient of concordance and it was determined that the results were similar. The Body Safety Training Workbook comprises of 10 sessions, with the first five training sessions being on “general safety” and the remaining five about “body safety”. Conclusion: The study has shown that the “Body Safety Training Workbook” is a suitable training program for the Turkish context.
