Abstract

Chlamydia trachomatis is known as the most common bacterial infection agent to pass with sexual transition. This microorganism is an obligatory intracellular parasite. C. trachomatis causes eye infections such as trachoma, pneumonias in new born babies, genito urinary system infections and Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) that is constituted by LGV strains causes pathology in the lymph nodes in the genital region. In this study, it has been aimed to investigate C. trachomatis by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and real time PCR methods. The swab samples that have been taken from 50 patients, who have applied to Erciyes University Gevher Nesibe Investigation and Application Hospital Obstetric and Gynecology Policlinics and Urology Policlinics with genital flow pre-diagnosis between February 2010 and March 2010 dates, have been included in this study. C. trachomatis was found positive in 1 (2%) sample of 50 samples. As a conclusion no difference was found between two PCR methods for investigation of C. trachomatis DNA.
