Özet

Özet: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye'de Tekstil ve hazır giyim sektörünün konjonktürel dalgalanmalarının, genel iktisadi konjonktüre etkilerini analiz etmektir. Son on yılda bu endüstrilerin rekabet düzeyini etkileyen iki önemli gelişme olmuştur. Bunlardan ilki olan Gümrük Birliği Anlaşmasının (EU-Gustom Union Agreement) olumlu etkilerine rağmen Dünya Ticaret örgütü (WTO) , Uruguay toplantısında imzalanan ATC (Agreement on Textiles and Clothing) anlaşmasının, Türk tekstil ve hazır giyim endüstrilerini zora soktuğu söylenebilir.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of production cycles of the textile and apparel industries on general business cycles in Turkey. There are two important agreements which affect these industries competitiveness in last decade. ATC Agreement has a serious negative impact on these industries. In 1994, WTO countries agreed to phase out the use of import quotas on goods in the textile and clothing industries in 2005. After a transition period all restrictions on world textile and apparel trade were ended in 2005. Therefore when we consider the GNP share of these industries in Turkish economy it became important to examine the impact of these industries on general business cycles in Turkey. This study empirically estimates the relationship between textile and apparel industries and general business cycles in Turkey by using ARCH Methodology and analyze business cycle structure of these variables.
