Küçülmenin İşletmelerin Finansal Performansına Etkisi

Özet

Bu çalışma, Türk firmaları tarafından da yaygın olarak kullanılan downsizing’in, firmaların finansal performansları üzerine etkisini analiz etmeye çalışmıştır. Downsizing, firmalarda çalışan sayısının en az yüzde 10 ve daha fazla oranda azaltılması olarak tanımlanmıştır. Bu çalışma örneklem olarak 1998 ile 2003 dönemi arasında İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasında downsizing uygulayan imalat işletmelerini kapsamaktadır. Çalışmanın ilk sonucu olarak, umulanın aksine işletmenin satılan malın maliyetinde ve giderlerinde bir yükselme olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Çalışmanın ikinci sonucu olarak net satışlar/çalışan sayısı, net kar/toplam varlık ve firmaların piyasa değerinde bir iyileşme olduğudur. Çalışmada son olarak da faaliyet karı/çalışan sayısı, brüt kar marjı, net kar marjı ve finansal performans kriterlerinde herhangi bir değişim görülmediği ortaya çıkmıştır.

Abstract

This study attempts to analysis the effect of the downsizing which commonly implemented by the Turkish firms on the financial performance of firms. The downsizing is defined as the number of employees reduced more than 10 percent in the firms. This study covers manufacturing firms, implemented downsizing, in İstanbul Stock Exchange Market (ISE) between 1998-2003 term as a sample. In this study as a first result that came out some increases in the cost of sales and expenses on the contrary of expectations. The study showed that there are improvements on the net sales/number of employees, net profit/total asset and market value of the firms as a second result. Finally, this study indicated that there are no changes in the operation profit/the number of employees, brut profit margin, net profit margin and financial performance criteria.
