Abstract

Behram Lütfi, a member of the leftist Türkiye Halk İştirakiyun Fırkası, was probably born in the Ottoman Balkans in the 1890s. He first became Turkist under the influence of Ethem Nejat, than involved in the socialist movement. While sent into exile to Çorum upon his socialist activities, he joined the nationalist movement, where he also tried to put into practice what he had learned from Ethem Nejat. He made efforts to found an association of scouting in Çorum and supported Ankara’s policy of changing the Arabic alphabet to Latin. He also worked for the Turkish Aviation Society (Tayyare Cemiyeti). This essay is about his life in exile primarily based on what he wrote in various newspapers, through which he tried to convey his ideas and opinions to the people.
